  8. Hello on Saturday night, dear Anita!

That was one of the most romantic dining rooms I have ever seen! And those marvelous lavender slippers, the loose leaf tea, the dresses, the formal garden hedge, you evoke such beauty in the images you choose!

Beauty is where we keep our eyes open, for it is everywhere, thankfully:)
Being able to see it in all of its myriad varieties is a blessing:)

  9. There's a lot of truth to that statement. Sometimes I am so surprised by finding something or someone beautiful when it was the last thing I thought I was looking for.

But here, on these pages ... I ALWAYS know I will find 'beautiful' :)

  11. Oh to have the courage to accomplish that! Because it truly takes courage doesn't it?
Thank you for something to contemplate.....

This is on the same lines, in a way, I was thinking of how Michelangelo could see a statue when he looked at a block of stone.
Most of us just see the stone. "I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free"

Today I have been working on something that I hope will be beautiful... if you were to look at the colors on my palette,
beautiful would probably not be the word that would come to mind. Especially if you were to know it is for painting the
color of skin in my latest painting.... and yet, these dark shades of grey, black, blue, white and touches of ochre
will become the colors of skin in shadow.... and of a little boy, not what one would expect I am sure.

But today I've posted my progress of the Lady Mary painting, which I've shown you in email.
It's been a dark and stormy day, a day in which to create our own beauty!

And you know Who creates beauty from ashes. Now that is indeed BEAUTIFUL!

Love this blog post my dear. Your exquisite message (and those amazing paper dresses.....)

  12. Beautiful Anita! That buck standing, the beautiful dresses, the pretty shoes, and the table settings.. your pictures are always gorgeous. Beauty is so very personal isn't it? As an artist, I imagine you see things in great detail, looking at texture, color, depth, etc.. and begin to think how you might interpret that.

The paper dresses you make are lovely Anita. There is such a feminine, soft quality about them. Enjoy your day! xx

  18. I haven't yet watched the clip, but had to comment on the post. Beauty, when it is right in front of us is one thing - beauty that is obscured or otherwise hard to recognise is special. I love the quote - it spoke right to me and what I believe.

I thoroughly enjoyed the music and the images on the clip, and your words are the icing on the cake. You have a beautiful heart Anita and today you are wearing it on your sleeve. Thank you for bringing so much beauty into my life. xx

  21. Absolutely yes! Which is why I love winter so much - the snowbound type first, of course - but then the challenge found in seeking beauty in the barren soil and grey clouds is simply wonderful!

Beauty is completely essential to me - that tea is MY kind of tea, and those exquisite gowns - and I love finding it in unexpected places. As I look up from my bedroom window I can see two red squirrels frolicking in the woods!

    Fabulous!

  30. Hello Anita... I found your beautiful blog through Kerrie's Sea Cottage... such soft, serene photos... I love the one of the beautiful buck in the mist by the castle... all of God's creatures are so precious to me... I believe my calling in life is to care for and protect them, as much as I can... two mornings ago, in the wee hours of darkness... I looked out our bedroom window, into the back yard where I feed the birds and deer... and the most beautiful buck was out there eating... I was completely mesmerized and could not take my eyes off of him... so innocent and gentle... I got my camera and took a picture of him in the darkness through my window as he slowly ate the apples I had put out... then sauntered off... 39. If Oldenberg found it in a piece of toast, then I guess he's right. I often want to do a life-sized sculpture of one of those huge bustle dressed women, who is lifting her skirt for a peek of what lies underneath. Maybe someday. Life-sized pieces take up so much room and also a long time to produce. I love your posts. Wish they were more often, but great work does take time.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh Yes, beauty comes in all forms and appearances. We just have to look closer. That is what makes you so special - you see this, my dear. I believe that is what makes a good photographer - not taking the best picture, but finding the perfect scene. You are on your way to becoming a great picture taker because you are aware of this. I wanted to tell you that Jess came over here and saw some of your house pictures, and she said you should take more pictures because the ones you take of your house are always so great!

You know how much I love birds, so this little blue bird was so sweet to me. And I love the picture of the women with the tea.

You are beautiful, you are special, and you amaze me with your thoughts and creativeness. That Oscar Wilde is very smart, indeed.

Have a nice Sunday, doing all the things you love.

  53. Oh I love this, Anita! I once read a story about a woman who was under incredible stress because of several tragic events in her life. I think this is wonderful.

And after reading your post, I am going to hold onto this as a reminder to always look for the beauty were I least expect it. It is found in so much more than what we see with our eyes. There is good within the bad. And that is my lesson, what I am taking from this... to find that good, no matter how small, and hold onto it. Merci, you truly have many gifts and thank you for sharing them with us. You are such an inspiration my friend! xoxo

  59. hi Anita! Thank you for brightening my morning with words at my post and for your new and lively post. Your inspiration is wonderful, simply wonderful. This week's weather should be more normal for you I hope. Walking in 35° is so great. I am not interested to be out and about comfortably until it is around 45° here, which is was over the weekend. My ydd is so funny. She was married in January and has moved 2 times now in January (once 4 yrs ago and then this past weekend). I wonder why she doesn't ever hit upon those events on a lovely summer day? But each time the January Thaw has been in place and it has been a wonderful winter day. Winter can have it's loveliness, that is for sure. Thanks for all of your fun words at my post today! Yay! ♥

This post brings tears to my eyes! I LOVE this SO much! I was reading along and admiring the beautiful photos and thinking to myself that you have wonderful taste...and then I came to the quote by Claes Oldenburg...and then what you wrote: "Now go hunt in the most unlikely places that harbor what you are yet to value and what will shape you into someone more." That is PROFOUND! Thank you for these words as it's so easy to find the beauty in beautiful things and to not seek out beauty that has potential, is hidden or is lost. LOVE it!

  92. Hello, dearest Anita
I think one place where I would not expect to find value and beauty in is in trials...yet they say beauty arises from ashes. I shrink from trials, but it is in the very trials I have experienced, which have caused me to see visions of beauty not otherwise seen with the human mind, but from the soul. So, I see, and perceive what you are talking about, as who would think to view trials as having hidden beauty within? You definitely got my inner eye to look more closely at what life has to show us, if we get humble and kneel down and peer through the keyhole to the other side where beauty lies hidden in another invisible realm of the heart and aspect of the often, shirked from trials of life, it is there we will find the hidden beauty of the difficult part of Life.

  94. I am evermore aware that you, dearest, are the perfect life companion to me. In my profession I see much ugliness in the world past and present. But you seemed wired to see beauty almost anywhere, and at times I am panicked by the feeling that I am like a foreign body lodged in the healthy tissue of your universe. It is a glorious feeling.
    Love you.

  101. Hello beautiful Anita!!!!
Those dresses are spectacular!!!!! It looks like scenes from Marie Antoinette. So gorgeous & exquisite!!!!
My dad had his throat surgery Friday afternoon. The doctors discovered some nodules on my dad's throat lining that were NOT there a month ago so those were all removed & sent for biopsy. He didn't even have the procedure he went in for. We are praying all turns out fine and in 8 weeks he can have the procedure he was originally scheduled to have.
Hope you had a wonderful weekend!!!!
    Love & Hugs,
    Shannon

  111. Hello, Anita! Thank you so much for coming to The Marmelade Gypsy -- your comments meant more than I can say. I am so very delighted with the beauty in your blog. This frigidly cold day needs a little beauty and I found it right here -- that dazzling blue bird, the wonderful painting, the magnificent stag. Oh, indeed -- these are splendid and just what I needed. Merci beaucoup!

I was silly to keep the bad info from blog-land. Now it feels so refreshing to be here and open and free. I am going to kick cancer's ugly arss, that is for ding-dang sure! Iloveyou, Anita! ♥

  119. Yes, indeed! Often times, beauty can be found where you least expect it. You are well, my friend? We are in a deep freeze here, and I'm trying to find beauty as I look around outside. There is something magical about a garden glazed in snow and ice.
    Stay warm,

  121. I am ok my dear, have been very tired here, so much going on with a new puppy, the art of getting orders completed, and keeping up with my esty, as well as design jobs.
I have admired the beauty you have been creating as well as the repeat visit I make just to visit the photos of your beautiful vanity desk and mirror of gold.
I am always so amazed at the beautiful photos you post, and admire the ones of your home best. I would move into your home in a minute it's just so me. Your simple beauty stands out, never blending in un-noticed!

I have sold 6 crowns now from my esty and have 3 left, they are really fun to make but time consuming with all the layers I have to do to them.
Thank you my French friend who's beauty never fails us.
Thank you for admiring my crowns in my etsy.
Chateau Chic was one of my first in the selection of what crown she wanted, and Mary Alice was so beautiful to have posted it and send bloggers my way :)

I am off to finish up a cross, I will see you and your beauty in all you inspire soon.

    Xoxo
A weekend that inspires your talents in writing and art.

  126. okay, i'll quit saying this pretty soon...but I LOVE LOVE what you have to say...all of it, and ALL of your photos, every bloomin' one Anita! thank you about my sister (and my dad died 2 months after her) it's been a really hard year, but we have a wonderful loving family (huge I might add) that knows how to communicate which adds to healing and understandings. and mom just 2 years ago, adding that in that I understand so much about that for you. it doesn't matter how old we are, mothers are (no words). and I will always be grateful to have had my parents as long as we did. it must have been at a fairly young age for you and EXTREMELY difficult, my love to you Anita.
and then about the portraits,,,yes do do...you don't even have to show anyone. we learn sooo much from faces, I tell ya'...I am having lots fun and learning tremendous amount of technical and magical things combined, one of the reasons I ADORE painting faces and painting period! hope you are having a GREAT CREATIVE weekend! xo
