Paris-Simply Irresistible: Good Night Sweet Prince

It all started as I descended

and quietly ambled down every street

and crossed every bridge

that has inspired countless artists and writers to

capture the

Then it finally happened to me.

The ghosts on the walls that have shadowed millions of

whispered to ME

and wisked me up towards my imagination

to surface as a child again.

I was smitten

and since then

have been kept still in the drawer of my mind

BUT are now doodled on paper

as my vision of a crooked little Parisian street

An old street in Paris, Rue de Sainte

remains the most famous street still to

this day

for boasting the most elegant boutiques

in town

to find the loveliest hat

or silk gown.

And there a most famous couturier

has a quirky assistant, I have to say

for he is a scrappy and shaggy monsieur

with button eyes and an uncanny allure

with floppy ears and a certain knack

for knowing who's buying

his name is Balzac.

He hoots and he whistles and warns his

his master and keeper, Monsieur Bergeron

who comes and who goes and who browses

and buys

for nothing escapes his scrupulous brown

So if you desire a Bergeron brand

you better be serious to pay on demand

and upon leaving this famous salon

please kindly say , "Merci Monsieur

And do not forget to say a "Merci"

to Monsieur Balzac or else you will see

his teeth sinking into your favorite

"Give me attention, or this you shall

As was his routine at the end of the day

Monsieur Balzac wanted to wander and play

in and around all the Parisian parks

The Tuileries was one of his favorite

He'd putt-putt his way in his little

all shiny and bright and incredibly

Once he would get there he'd frolic and

on the grounds of the park he would

spend all the day

exploring and looking for something

brand new to tear or to sniff or devour

and chew

until he met up with a certain artiste

who happened to spot him with

"Ce chien est charmant, vachement

he cried out in French and named him

For Balzac smirked incessantly with his

famous grimace

like the artiste's main character in his

book called Audace!

They made their acquaintances one

and every night since by the bright

Paris moon

they read the adventures of

Toto the great

so much that Balzac was to meet an odd

for his link to Toto was incredibly

that he suddenly found himself totally

his fur had a feeling like no other "boy"

Can you guess what had happened? He

turned into a

The artiste would read from his book to

the crowd

while Balzac charmed the children, oh

how he was proud

that everyone loved him and stroked his

ruff fur

however he couldn't utter one GRRRRR!

There he stood helpless but loved

but how he had wanted to get out of this

Meanwhile back at the famous boutique

M. Bergeron and his fashionable clique

continued their fashion shows hugging

and kissing

until Madame Choufleur said, "C'est

bizarre, something's missing!"

Voilà!" She cried out! "I know what's

not right!

it's that scamp named Balzac, he's been

out of our sight!

Gone is the biting, the growling and

nobody liked him, nobody cares!"

But M. Bergeron wondered where he had

while the crowd said, "Tant mieux! and

good riddance to him!

“Now we can show off our beautiful works

without his ridiculous manies and

However Balzac was enjoying success

the children had loved him in spite of

this mess

for he was Toto, their hero, their

who in every adventure was good to the

However one evening upon his large bed

Toto or Balzac got it into his head

to wish to become the dog he had been

to be totally transformed, without and

The children had hugged him so much he

was stained

he needed a wash, so once he was trained

to go get his towel and a bar of savon

he got a hot bath from l'artiste de Lyon.

So in order to see what followed this

you must turn the page to see what I mean

for now he was back in his own curly fur

growling and yapping with each single GRRRR...

He loved being real again in his skin

but will he be loved without and within

by all the young children and Monsieur

his master and keeper and famous patron?

Balzac’s transformation resulted in this

that when you are loved and sincerely

your heart becomes real and rien can

to the love that you give and the love

that you share.

Good Night Sweet Prince

I didn't post until today because they had to land, find a bicycle with a basket for Patch and peddle their way downtown Paris. Please come and see what they found and the foundation that has already been put down in cement. Balzac will love the treats and a free bag is waiting for him, enough for 6 months.

  87. Hello Anita,

I'm glad you liked my post. I was looking for a beret that was my grandmother's, but I don't think I have it anymore...(boo hoo). So I thought I would use the photo I took the other day of Maximus. The "hat" is a burp cloth that ended up as a make-shift bandana. But, I think it did the trick. Then, he just needed the moustache! LOL...

I am so frustrated with blogger lately (as I've seen you and other people comment as well). I am having trouble commenting on a lot of people's blogs. (not yours)...I went to blogger's help site and it is a "known issue." Not sure when it will be resolved. I had my post scheduled for 12:00am today, but it didn't post. Not sure why that didn't work, but glad I realized that this morning.

I'm so happy to have met you and am having a lot of fun visiting other Paris Friends today. Thanks for the smiles!

  88. I'm back for another visit!
    So fun, so inspiring!!!

We had a lovely day here, and after everyone left I immediately went to visit some of these fabulous Paris posts.

  110. Hi Anita my dear friend!
I am so sorrry! That I did not join in after all! I had all intention of joining in, but as you see I had the giveaway and it ended a day before your party my mistake of doing this :( I had to announce the winner and knew that I coulk not do this successfull in one day.

By the time I posted the winner I was exhausted with postings, Infact I had all the photos saved to as what my Paris post party would be, and you ended up with a short pink dress with a flowing train on it that we had in our file that my daughter was hygoing to waer to your cyber Paris party!!! :)

I promise I will come on the next Tour de France :)

I really cannot wait to see the table and all things your new room inspires.

  119. Dearest Anita, what can I say but you are truly amazing. I showed this post and story to my class of 20 year 3 students, who are 8 and 9,as well as our french Teacher Mr Miller. He is Australian but is also the deputy of our school who teaches French throughout the school. He speaks beautiful French and was able to tell us the meaning of the French words that we did not know.Oh boy, it was such a treat!!!! I was overjoyed to show it to my students who also marvelled at the beautiful pictures you selected to add to the story. I cant thank you enough for the joy I have recieved and was able to share. Peter ,our Deputy was also excited to share and grateful I invited him to join us, even tho I felt it was our priviledge to have him read the story. Your students must adore you as you are clearly so talented and creative. I am so grateful to you. Now I cant wait to explore all the party entries and see if there is more I can show my students. Is it too late for me to join? Im not as clever as you but I would love to add my tribute to Paris. Look forward to sharing more of your French talent, Best wishes, Fiona

  120. Happy holiday Anita! Hope you're still in Paris mood like i am. Later, i will go on blog-hopping through your list! Have a fab day! xx

  121. Dearest Anita, youll be happy to know my Deputy particularly wanted to ensure you knew the magic you gave us over here in Western Australia. To me it is an absolute delight to be teaching in a school where French is the LOTE subject, where I can indulge in my passion for France and take my students on the journey with me. I even told my 23 year old son about the post and story and he was pleased for me to be so happy. I so love teaching and these kids I have this year are amazing. I want to give them something special so I shall watch for more of your magic to share with them. Look forward to sharing more, Fiona

  122. Happy Monday sweet friend....such joy for you today...a day where you can enjoy a second or third cup of tea.

    Hugs for a wonderful day....xoxoxoxoxoxooxxo

  123. I would like a little Balzac
    to hug and kiss.

    But the feisty Balzac
    I would surely miss.

    Infused with stuffing,
he is one of a kind

But I prefer a real puppy,
    who speaks his mind!

Anita, I loved your little story, brilliantly told! I was late to the party as I had to do an out of town art show all weekend. When I read your post last night, I was delighted! I LOVE BALZAC!

  124. Bravo Anita!

  129. Beautiful and enchanting. May be my Only visit to Paris.

When you did the little part about the dog.....It reminded me of a funny story,.
When my two boys were little, we were living in Canada and got a dog. I asked them what they wanted to name it and they said MOOCHAY (phonetic sound)
I couldn't for the life of me figure out where that came from.
Then one day we were watching Sesame Street together.
Here in Canada they use French along with English.....whereas in the States they do Spanish and English.
Well, they showed a dog and the kids said SEE....MOOCHAY.
    It was Mon Chien.
and that's how they heard it.

have a lovely day my friend!!

  130. Bonjour sweet Anita, are you enjoying Memorial day? Your Paris Party is big fun, so many lovely ladies who join in. You are a special lady my friend.

Your party is so wonderful and I can't wait to take some more beautiful trips to Paris. I hope that you had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed your getaway and party. :)

  134. Bonjour ma douce amie,
How was this day dearest? Did you spend at least a few moments, "dreaming and scheming" of the "adventures and escapades" you will be involved in this summer? Oh dear one...the fiesta is about to begin...and I know you are ready to kick up your heals and get this vacation started...WOOOHOOO!
Well this girl S*H*O*P*P*E*D until she dropped...PURSES, SCARVES, the cutest fabric SHOULDER BAGS you have EVER seen, BRIGHT LEATHER WALLETS in lime, orange, and yellow, a plethora of SPARKLY EARRINGS, and the fluffiest organza lappel FLOWERS in a rainbow of delicious colors...Ahhhh...the goodness!
This afternoon I played in the garden and it was so therapeutic.
    It sooths my soul.
Now that the party is over...there is much cleaning and shining to do...this must be accomplished tomorrow, as well as a bit of painting, so will think of you as I enjoy a little time in my happy to you dearest...Rosie

  135. absolutely wonderful! does such a world of dreams still exist?

  136. Anita,
I stopped back this morning to read you post again. I just love the story, your illustrations and the music.

Anita, why not put a link to this post on your sidebar so new people stopping by can be as enchanted as we all are.

  137. Good morning my sweet friend...hope this note is finding you with a cup of tea in your hand...even if it is at school today. So nice for you to have a long weekend.
This morning the sun is coming rain today! Yahoooo...a perfect day to celebrate my birthday! We did do a bit of that on the weekend already but I am ready to celebrate again today even though my sweetie is out of town...I have my girls!

Off to school...we practice all morning for the musical which happens tomorrow. So two days of learning gone! Time is ticking.

    Merci mille fois!

  142. It was almost 90 degrees in my second floor classroom today, Anita...
How was it where you live? Dressing cool ~ keeping calm
    ~ ♥ ~ Maria

  143. Ahhhh...dearest, I LOVE that fist image of the beautiful white and grey roof top castle. Can you imagine waking up to that view every morning? What an incredible vista.
After a little "spit polish" my reward was to walk down town, stopping at the shop first, then it was off to a lovely used book store to order a book that mom had her eye on. I also stopped in at another antique store, just hoping for a little inspiration.
I live about a three minute walk from the my shop, and there are some fabulous cafe's and shops in my little area...All in all, it WAS a fine day.
And YOU my dear, are SO close to the much needed break that you so desire. This is going to be a perfect couple of months, with SUN, FUN and FRIENDS...may it arrive SOON and stay LATE :)
Sending your beautiful basket back to you, with a few lemon custard filled tarts, a handful fresh berries, and a whole lot of HUGS...Rosie

  144. Had to come back for another magical visit! Your talent overflows ~ and then inspires others to join in the dance.

    Sandra Evertson

  146. Evening my sweet friend...thinking of you. Our rest will soon be here. xoxox hugs

  147. Oh Anita darling,
Not again...I am hurting for you. It is so very hard to heal, when the muscle has been weakened...and you still have much to look after at school. Two more days and then you can sprawl on the sofa, with a heating pad to sooth those aching joints.
But you will have your lap top close by this weekend...WOW, what a perfect opportunity to showcase your immense talent. How fabulous that Ruben shares your passion for words. I LOVE that we both have adoring men who love to do the same activities that we do.
You are busy with your magazine article as well. Oh it will be perfect. Do you have a topic yet?
Whatever you choose will be GREAT.
Did a little rearranging of furniture today. Haven't done that for quite some time. Moved the church pew into the kitchen and the pair of French cane back chairs into the foyer...It is a beginning. I am itching to change the house over to a Parisian Farmhouse style. I will trade my mirror and chrome table in for a more rustic look, I think...but you know mind is constantly working. If you have any images of dining rooms in this style, I WOULD LOVE THE INSPIRATION. Now I will dream of All that is French, all that is charming...Feel Better my friend...xoxo...Rosie
