Common Thread

As I peer into the distance

beyond the gracious plains

and across the beautiful 

but REstless

and MIGHTY seas

I see myself.  

I would like to gather 

 

as much comfort as I can

for my brothers and sisters in this hour of great need

for we share a common thread.

And even though the various colors of our cultures and languages

religions and philosophies 

INDIVIDUALIZE and clearly distinguish us from each other

the basic need for DAILY bread

warmth

shelter

and love

binds us together as one.

Peace to everyone in Japan

and a calm spirit to ALL of you as we carry on

with the knowledge that life 

is so delicate.

All the treasured pieces

gracing those nooks of pampering pleasures 

and the caress of objects most desired

 

in the reckless blush of our youth

and in the crowned glory of experience

CANNOT fit into our bags

when we pass through the time-worn door of this life

to the next.

But what will follow us is the sweetness

 and beauty

of our character.

Yes, you CAN take it with you.

For the love you give away

is and will be the only thing you will take away with you.

Listen to the Silence

This is what I was going to sport on Friday night for a gala event celebrating my

school's 20th anniversary as a French immersion institution.

While some of my colleagues chose plumes

dentelle et rubans

et talons féeriques

in order to celebrate a golden moment in our history

I permitted the trailing remnants of winter's slide down towards reflection

to beckon me to STOP

and LISTEN

to the SILENCE.

What did I hear?

I heard that 

"The best answers are NOT given

They are found."

Yes, there will be rare occasions to give me another reason to rummage through my glimmering wardrobe

but a missed moment of quiet inspiration

is all too frequent and leaves me in an empty state of mind.

Where do you unearth what YOUR'E looking for?

Find yourself a happy spot

or a serene and sparse retreat

and LISTEN TO THE SILENCE.

I'm Going Gray

Valentine Day's creative enchantment

is now an afterglow of sweet memories wafting in the cool wind

only to be pondered in quiet solitude

on something as  F*A*B*U*L*O*U*S  as this.

for like in the fairytale, my place of rest can't be too big or too small

but just right.

 

I don't know if I'm going gray 

because I'm going gray

but I need calm surroundings in order to honestly savor the beauty of winter

in joyful anticipation for the next season of life to reveal itself little 

by little

so that I can swing open my French doors

and join you in the garden to play.

We are on the shores of Spring my friends

and we're almost there, so let's drink an elixir of hope together

gazing at the horizon

of our destination to paradise.

Survive

Strive

and most of all 

thrive 

in the anticipation of the coming months of 

unfolding beauty!
