I'm Going Gray

Valentine Day's creative enchantment

is now an afterglow of sweet memories wafting in the cool wind

only to be pondered in quiet solitude

on something as  F*A*B*U*L*O*U*S  as this.

for like in the fairytale, my place of rest can't be too big or too small

but just right.

I don't know if I'm going gray

because I'm going gray

but I need calm surroundings in order to honestly savor the beauty of winter

in joyful anticipation for the next season of life to reveal itself little

by little

so that I can swing open my French doors

and join you in the garden to play.

We are on the shores of Spring my friends

and we're almost there, so let's drink an elixir of hope together

gazing at the horizon

of our destination to paradise.

Survive

Strive

and most of all

thrive

in the anticipation of the coming months of

unfolding beauty!

please......spring. don't pass us by. We need you here.

Oh I want that grey sofa! I think I've liked grey these past couple of years because I am getting older. Grey feels comfortable to me. My hair is still natural brown/dirty blonde, but when it does turn grey I will let it. I've never dyed my hair and don't plan on ever dying. It's funny because all of my kids dye their hair...and change colors often.

I wanted to thank you so much for your lovely words of support. I really don't know HOW you do it all Anita. If I had a full time job outside of the home I would not be able to blog. YOu visit it me far far more often then I think is possible!!!! Now that I will be slowing down it will be easier for you to keep up with my posts! tee hee.

I'm so excited for you and your new 'room'. I think it will become the most heavenly sanctuary for you. Blessings for you weekend and week ahead. Much love to you my dear friend. ox

Ahhhhh....yes the trick is to find the perfect balance...crisp grays to creamy taupes and browns...twinkly, sparkly chandy crystals to rough hewn beams with years of glowing patina...soft flowing drapes to the rich sheen of thick chocolate velvet. You my dear are up to the challenge...a few silver locks, only goes to show the wealth of wisdom that resides inside.
So today my quest was to find a frilly dresser to add to the little stockpile I have accumulated, for the time that I am not up to the challenge...and am HAPPY to report that I have accomplished this task, with not only one lovely lady, but two! Now keep in mind that these girls need a wee face lift, but after a fresh coat of paint and a smattering of shiny glass knobs, this pair of sisters will be the hit of the r&r party.
Have sent you a snappy of these two girls, but keep in mind that this is the "before", with the "after" still to come.
So am in the shop tomorrow, greeting those lovely ladies who come in for our linen sale. Have a perfectly charming day with your precious man. Oh, thank you, thank you for that "Happy Snappy" of your FAVORITE handy man. Glad to still see a smile on that cute mug, now that this HUGE project is coming to an end...hugs and kisses a plenty...Rosie

Well Dear Anita, Julie and I will drink to that : )
Julie arrived late last night and brought the Vancouver rain with her. Melted all our snow...but tonight we had a little blizzard as we were leaving Sister Lolotte. WOW.
It's suppose to get below zero again tomorrow : )
I want her to feel the cold on the end of her pretty nose. Wear all her pretty scarves and mittens she brought.
We are having FUN.
We wanted to say hi to our favorite French Teacher.

Bonjour Anita,
Ah Spring...your words are encouraging as I look out the window and watch the rain coming down. It will soon be here won't it? I did see the tiniest budding bulb trying to peek out in our little garden (well soon to be garden, it looks a bit forlorn right now).
The grey sofa has caught my eye. It would be perfect for my Honey's office we are working on.
Hope all is wxell with you my sweet but frazzled friend. We will have a proper 'cath-up' when things are settled and quiet again.
Bisous,

Dear Anita,
One thing about winter in the Midwest: they are beautiful but long. Long enough to make Spring seem like a real resurrection to new life when it finally arrives. Long enough to make you feel like you're waiting on pins and needles in anticipation. I'm on pins and needles now.
Beautiful post.

My hair is going a bit grey too. Because i had skin cancer and the shingles in my head too, I can't color my hair, but I have learned to graciously grow older and that growing older is a state of mind.

As you are a fan of Audrey Hepburn, read my last two posts about her. I think it will put a smile on your face.

As to grey, I have always been able to see the grey areas and not seen things as black and white.

Lovely post,
Micki

Can you see a light at the end of the tunnel yet with the approach of spring and your summer vacation? I know you've been working hard and will love this summer to come!!

We will have he Sweetie Girls this weekend... I see Princesses and fairy wings in my future!! LOL

Gray is such a beautiful color... that sofa... I am in love! I hope that is going to be in your new space??!!! Spring is coming... NY is finally thawing and the light has changed just a little -- less blue.

After all the contraction of winter comes the expansion of Spring. The crystals in my LR window are throwing deep richly colored rainbows into the room... for valentines Dr Lostpast held one in his hands for a photo... what an image of joy and possibility.

Sadly, my poor hair is going beige (but slowly--thankfully) the curse of the red toned mane!

Let's toast to life and possibility, shall we?

Well hello ma chère, chère amie, I like grey a lot, found out that it matches beautifully with earth tones like taupe and brown. It's the color palette in my wardrobe this season.
All the things you are thinking about right now, every detail. It's so much fun and perhaps a bit exhausting too. I leave difficult decisions to the 'stars' at night, think about it shortly before falling asleep and mostly the day after or a few days later it comes together, the answer comes to mind.
Anyway, I adore toutes les photos, ma plus chère amie, Sooo Springlike. I'm all ready, bring it on!
Much love for a loveliest of weekends, Anita xxxx

Take care, my darling friend. Have a fabulous weekend.

Such vibrant colors make up this "gray post!" (I think a couple of photos even look like Greece!~) Really lovely contrasts and so full of hope... a good reminder that even if we don't live where it's too gray outside the door that we do have very "gray days" of feeling on occasions...and that "these too will pass" to vibrant days of sunshine and sparkle and a world where everything for that moment...is terrific!
Thanks, dear Anita!

I went on to explain that, It is almost like you live just next door and we talk "over the fence" daily... Heaven :)
Oh what a VERY L O N G day dearest, I am so tired. I SO need to do a new post, but there are just not enough hours in the day.
Tomorrow, I will take in an early service( can hardly wait...come with me and we'll sit together :) )
Then it will be a few hours of painting bliss. I shall hopefully finish this big old table, so I can get on to shining up these old chandies....oh, dearest, it is never ending.
Will you get a chance to put your pretty feet up and relax for a few hours this weekend? Oh, I hope so :) you cram so MANY hours into each day, I don't know how you do it.

And speaking of Spring, Oh joy! I spent this lovely warm day digging up wild Daffodils and daylillies which grow by the zillions along our stream bank. Then I carried them to several garden spots and dug into that rich black earth to bury the beautiful bulbs and tubers.I could smell the scent of Spring in the soil as I worked and it just made me feel so alive and happy. I had to keep reminding myself that it is the month of February, it doesn't seem so, here.

Yoo Hoo!....Yoo Hoo!...Hey Anita Girl, Are you in there? I'm leaning over your pretty white fence, peeking in those brand new french doors, try to see if you are able to come out and play....so...can ya?
Oh your relaxing evening sounds so very fine. My favorite method of relaxation would have to be, curled up in front of the fireplace with the check list as follows:
#1...a VERY suspence filled book
#2... a delicious hot drink of either coffee, tea or cocoa
#3...a warm fuzzy blanket
and finally
#4...a little classical music for ambiance.
This is a rare treat, that is a welcome distraction from this crazy world that we live in.
Painting in my "happy place" is a close second...and that was what this weekend served up on a well polished silver platter.
Lots and Lots of white paint went into coating the old claw foot table today. Will flip her over and paint the top soon.
Tomorrow, will bring a trip to the big city again, to pick up goods for the shop...have a specialist appointment that I have waited many months for as well. Hoping they will give me a few answers.
Well dear one, it is time to wish you a good evening and send you a virtual hug...oh, and a wave from my side of the fence...sweet dreams...xoxox...Rosie

Oh Good Morning Anita Dearest...
What a beautiful share today. I love it. And did you say GREY? Well sweetie, I turned grey when I was 30. I have been coloring my hair every since. My grey is not pretty at all, but I will never be ready to turn grey. Blondes have more fun for me.

Now I love the bikes in the snow, and the bikes in the spring. And that pink one, oh be still my little heart. Could we ever have fun on one of these?

And yes open those french doors and let in the Spring breeze. I can smell it already. (Here in Phoenix, it smells like lemons, as my tree is positively full of them.)

Would love to have berries in a little tent in the yard. How fun would that be?

Oh you have taken me to so many fun places today. Yes Spring is brewing is it not?

Hope you got the day off today as well. We are off and I am doing a little catching up this morning. My dashboard disappeared basically. It is showing that I am not following any blogs, so I can't see when anyone posts a new post. I finally found google reader, so I am up and running a little. It is taking me awhile to get used to changes. Blogger stole my dashboard over a week ago now and nothing has came back up.

Have a glorious day sweet one. Many hugs and much love sweetie, Sherry

Hello dearest Anita! I hope you are well and have not been snowed in too much! We did not get as much as you, more rain and ice than the snow. I had to visit your blog again to find some happy thoughts for this dreary day. :) I hope you had a wonderful weekend and I think that I read somewhere that you had today off? If so I hope you got to enjoy it and rest. Have a beautiful day and each day we are getting closer and closer to Spring!

Bonjour Anita!
Yes spring is definitely coming! Though it is still cold here, around the freezing point, but sunny, there are numerous signs that spring is coming. Yes a hopefull season indeed, but a tad busy too. When the sun stands low and shines into my home it reveals all things not so clean and immaculate, to say the least! I should have an old fashioned spring cleaning, but a blogger doesn't have time for that!! Have a lovely day, lieve vriendin, bisous, LiLi

Oh, Anita, that gray sofa is divine! It would be the perfect spot for a couch picnic!
I am off from school this week. :) It is our winter break. I am very grateful for the time off as I have an annoying cold...achoo! My husband took the week off too, so we are trying to work on a few projects. I hope to paint what will become our guest room today. My brother will be visiting next month so that is the goal. Sending springtime thoughts your way!
Blessings!

Hi Anita,
Oh how I loved your spring post. And how I also need (yes, NEED, not want...) that gray tufted sofa in my own home. How beautiful! And the promise of spring is on its way. After Sunday and Monday, and 15 more inches of snow, it will come slowly, but I know it will one day get here and all my trees will be dressed up in their finest.

I adore that pictures of your home, and we just added onto our home also. It is a long process, and I am so glad to see the end of it. Enjoy your new addition. It looks lovely, and how I adore your front yard! Hurry spring!

Fine Bessot.

Now is that mantel divine or what??
Gray can be so elegant, Anita,...in a dress, in a room, on a table.
(I'm way past gray on my head and all white. And it happened at age 38 too. :) So.....I did something my mother begged me to do years ago...color. Wish she was still here to see it. Why was I so stubborn? Looking so old before my time? And I'm a firm believer in aging gracefully too. Oh well.)

I surely hope "real" color, spring, green, flowers and all good things appear outside your window soon! You've had a long winter up north!

Hello my lovely friend,

Thank you for your kind words! I'm feeling much better. My dog is always sitting on my side when I'm sculpting. He took my glasses today and run around the table, that's his way to ask for play with me lol. They feel when you are not well or feel sad. Dogs are so clever!!

You are so lovely, both inside and out. Your uplifting words of support and love bring a smile back to this tired face. Thank you my sweet.
You really do have the best job...your baby birds are so hungry for the skillful mentoring you so generously give. Ah, they love and adore their "hero".
Today was a day of shopping (the last BIG shop), and I finished lining the drawers of those dressers (ahhhh...they are so very pretty). Tomorrow NEEDS to be a house cleaning day, as my son is popping home for the weekend. I can't wait...may even create a "cherry cheesecake" for my men.
Oh dearest, thank you for your love...may you enjoy a JOYfilled Friday overflowing with giggles, smiles and much laughter...xoxoxo...Rosie

Anita-
When I come to your blog I feel rested and refreshed. It doesn't ask me to DO or BE anything. It doesn't make me feel like I am less because I am not as accomplished in this area or that.

It makes me rest. Makes me dream.

:)

As for my Italy post, I had uploaded a picture from my iPad and when I viewed it online, it was tiny. So I deleted it and plan to do it from my actual computer so my photo isn't grainy.

But for now you can come over and read about blood and guts. Hehe. Joking. Kind of. ;)

I hope your day is sparkly!
Love,
Megan

I think this is Gods way of telling us we can't do everything...slow down...so it is good you are listening tonight and get tucked in early.

Anita, Dear friend...

The sofa in chocolate brown with the grays sounds divine!!
It reminds me of ex-model now business women designer Tracy Porter with her design book with her own sofa being a chocolate brown sofa with all the driftwood tones and aged flea market style! I was in love with her style.

I know it is going to look divine in your home. The little found inspired gray table sounds wonderful can't wait to see it.
The simple gold framed picture over the table is perfectly stealing my heart:)

I am in the biggest excitement to see all your simple beauty, and you will be an inspiration to all.

Thank you my friend for your biggest effort in spreading your encouragement to us while having such a job going on around you! You amaze me with all that you inspire.

Vous êtes une belle âme, la création d'une belle âme dans votre maison.
