EXPLODE THE MOMENT

School

is where I stylishly earn my living

SYSTEMATICALLY teach

attempt to inspire

confabulate unforgettable MOMENTS

and humbly learn something new from the old pages of my life.

All week long, my 50 fourth grade writers learned to FOCUS on a specific moment in the PRESENT tense

using STRONG VERBS

with INTENSE verbal imagery

in order to engage their readers to take a bite out of time

and EXPLODE THE MOMENT with vivid flavor, texture and emotion.

What were the results?

A writing lesson that LES ENFANTS did not want to end

and a LIFE LESSON for me that will CONTINUE until I die.

What other way is there to live, but to savor the NOW?

My students found JOY in using new words like

TRUDGE instead of walk

and using similes that instill a poignant image in the mind of their audience.

This JOIE DE VIVRE must be taught and cultivated and having said this, I want to thank FAY from A Melange et Moi

who obviously knows how to EXPLODE THE MOMENT and make each day beautiful and who has kindly passed on an award to me, but unfortunately, I am unable to access her blog to grab the image...

Now, I need to tell you seven things about myself and give this honor to 10 more bloggers that I have discovered over the last year.

1. I need to have "an edge" in my approach to work and creative contributions

and this is how I feel about myself if I am not doing something with a CREATIVE TWIST.

 2. I ASPIRE TO BE ORGANIZED!

 3.  I need friends.

4.  I love to read

5. but even more so, I love to write.

6. Animals are my passion, especially curly, scrappy terriers!

7. And I prefer an almost monochromatic theme with just a splash of contrasting color in how I dress

and in my home décor as well, with ALWAYS an element of sparkle!

To the following bloggers who EXPLODE the moment with their gifts of photography, poetry and humor, I award this acknowledgement. Please visit them to EXPERIENCE the MOMENT that they so lovingly create for you.

The rules are to go and do the same:

1. Visit and link the person from where the award came.
2. List seven things about yourself.
3. Award 10 bloggers the award.

Fay, MERCI CHÈRIE! I am unable to access her lovely blog, but her world is chic, European, and magnificent!

Here I am, off to the market but had to stop here first when I saw the title of your blog. So glad that I did.

I thought at first you said 'intense verbal integrity' and was so awed by the idea that re-reading it and seeing 'imagery'... well it was like a double thrill. Getting little nippers to connect to a lesson must be so gratifying. Words have lost their totemic power lately and have dissolved into a homogenized beige soup in the media and day-to-day discourse. Catching them young with the power of words to connect with one another on a deeper and richer level... well that's half the battle. The world of tweets is eroding that. BRAVA, dear lady.

Dear Anita,

This may be the first time I have commented first on one of your posts, which is absolutely lovely. You do "explode the moment" and I am so grateful because I get to come along for the ride.

Another lovely and inspiring post, dear Anita! I can relate to those feelings of pleasure when we truly connect with our students and share such joy and delight in the learning!
I was just thinking of the contrast between you and my French teacher Monsieur Berube! He was an excellent teacher, but very straight laced, an older man, and very, very tall. He always wore a suit and tie. I remember him as a very serious man, so when he smiled it made me feel happy. I don’t remember much creativity being introduced in his classes, however! I could read and translate written text pretty well as I recall, but always found it difficult to understand the spoken word. Poor auditory discrimination, I guess. I have always felt disappointed that I cannot really speak another language. Out of nine students in my class, two are already bilingual and are learning Spanish too! I have often felt a little envious when I think about it! Language is such a gift!
Happy you enjoyed the little parcel I sent! I'm off to check out your beautiful blog suggestions!
Happy week-end, dear friend!
Blessings!

I love how you have used these magnificant images to share these 10 things... that reveal more beautiful layers of you.

Thank you for including me as one of your friends of inspiration!
And for the award! I've visited some of these blogs but will go see them all... how delightful!

And that star wand is going to YOU and the winner of my give-away, as I made TWO. (as your lovely glittering gifts to me were the inspiration!) I'm keeping it open for a few more days so more of your readers can come by and enter.

I do believe the turquoise that dances about here are inspiring my new color choices for my home's 'splash' of color, as well as a new scarf and earrings...

I love visiting your blog. I totally adore the photos you put up, and I go through you post a couple of times to just savor the pictures..........and your writing of course.

I took 2 years of french in college, but now very rusty. Cant remember much.

good title. Explode the Moment. It would be nice indeed to live life that way. I sometimes let life Explode around me, and feel like I am just little severed pieces of that explosion, trying to put it "back together".

Life does need to be better lived, and experienced. Live life with Strong verbs.....!!!!

I would have thought nothing less then you being an organized lady. Classy to the max. I am not sure about this get together at Claudies...I am beginning to wonder if I'll be the thistle in a bouquet of roses. You all seem so talented and gorgeous.

I love to read too and am trying to do better with that this year.

so on this freezing day today,, I'll see what I can make explode.
hugs to you

You know... it is because of two people I became an author. My husband back when we were first married and... a 6th grade student teacher when I was going to school in California. Her words still ring in my ears so many decades later... "Don't worry about your spelling, Ann, just write your thoughts. You have beautiful thoughts and a special way of expressing them...put those feelings on paper! I repeat...Don't worry about your spelling!" I don't know that young teachers name...she was only there for a short while...but her words, her encouragement, changed my life. Your profession is one of the most noble, dear Anita. I know you are tired sometimes and discouraged but really...you just never know how your words might affect one of your pupils for their entire life! I have a feeling you are like that 6th grade student teacher...who I thank so often within my thoughts...
Blessings!

Whewhew! Anita, how on earth didi you manage to put this loooong and beautiful post tohether, while painting your rooms and all?
You are indeed the magic teacher, and i LOVE these images and words and believe you HAVE this incredible ability to EXPLODE the moment. These kids are so lucky to have you there! Plus this lesson is so valuable - and one of the most important things tp learn in life: it is really the here and now, the present moment that counts! I have learnend this in the past years, that have not been easy for me. Even though everything may be difficult and tense - the present moment can still be beautiful, if we are open to it and the gift it offers. It's like, there's not only horizontal time, there's also vertical time and from there, miracles can reach us.
Thank you so much Dearest, for awarding me and mentioning me in this post - such a joyful thing to see now, while i get home! It's such fun to be conected here - it certainly helps to treasure life and the best things in it! Will think about how to pass it on ...
Meanwhile, i hope you enjoy your creamy white walls and the empty new rooms. So special the moment, when a room is still empty, but full of possibilities ... savour that time and use it to dream! But i know you will!
Have a lovely evening, xoxox

Well, Your Highness,
this latest post of yours has brought back some forgotten, lovely memories from my teen years. You see, I had the same wonderful teacher for both English/drama class and also French Class. She made learning exciting. She also made each day visually interesting, as we would never know how she would look. One day she would be a long haired blonde wearing a formal looking suit...and the next day, she would be a short haired brunette with a very short shirt and very long boots! Or a red haired hippy type...it was always just great to see her each day. And she knew her stuff. She was a wonderful actor when it came to drama class. Yes...the name has finally just come to me, ...her name was Mrs Bolton. Anyway, thanks for the trip down 'memory lane'...such a sweet place to wander.
I can imagine you as a superb teacher. Dedicated and always interesting.
Now I must go and take a peek at these recommended blogs of yours.
Oh, and yes! please do drop by for a chance to win my very first 'giveaway'. I had taken ever so long just drafting this latest piece to post and I had wanted the 'giveaway' to 'fit' the post.
Thanks again, for sharing your talent with us all.

It was great fun to see some of your other blog friends. You have such a variety of pals...to me, that is the best way to have friends. Like one big tossed salad of goodness.

This next week I turn one year older and I have a grand birthday gift that I gave myself. Stay tuned, I will announce it on Wed. the 19th. Unless of course, I can't keep the secret from you and I email you!

If I were a youngster, yours would be my FAVORITE class...Do these young souls know HOW fortunate they are??? I LOVE to write. The seeds were planted by a very special lady...and watered( and weeded :)) by many tender, caring, mentoring teachers along the twisty, scholastic, garden path.
Well dear one, the shop was all a buzz with winter treasure being carefully packaged away...and hearts in every shade of pink, red and cream being hung, and tucked into every crevasse I could find...Oh to spend EVERY day, sprinkling love all about...ahhhh.
The boys have gone to a near by town to pick up a few pieces of furniture to brighten up the little shop. They will drop these perfect little treasures off, and if I feel up to it I will go and play a bit tomorrow...we'll see.
As for now, ah, I am happy and quite tired. I am sleeping way to much, but seem to need it, so...to bed I go...sleep well my dear...and the kettle will be ready for you tomorrow...xoxo...R

Bonjour Anita,
What a great start of the week with a post like this, getting to know you better. I'm not sure is I can understand the meaning of needing an 'edge' in your creative work. Do you need a deadline, or a limitation in what you can use? I'll google it later. I love to learn new words and proverbs, so don't think I criticize you, on the contrary, the more you use a literary language the more I learn and I love it!
Sorry that I am late here, I had a computer free weekend, which I need once in a while. Have a lovely week, my dear friend, bisous, LiLi

Hello my Sweet,
Thank you. Would you believe I got that pair and about 15 more but, different styles about 12 yrs ago.How I got them...way before I even thought about making dolls, I was making the theme Christmas trees and Angel trees. All the bar maids where I was working, saw all these different shoes in Dollar World and thought I could use these in my crafts. It was my birthday you see...and they wanted to make up a Birthday basket for me. They bought me all kinds of figurines ans such.I still have several pair.I use them now to make Marie Antoinette Angel tree dolls.Have you ever seen one of my MA tree dolls? Anyway... they came from Dollar world.
My brother had a set back a few days ago,but he is a fighter. If only he can hold on for a few more weeks. It take a month to prepare the Bone marrow donor and himself too. Thank you for asking.
Try looking up dollar world on the pc...maybe you can email someone about the shoes. We no longer have a Dollar world.
Take care Dear,
XXOO Marie Antionette

Oh Anita girl it's just old Rosie here...lookin' for SNOW WHITE in her BIG shiny new palace...Ah, THERE YOU ARE sweet one. Dear heart I just can't...nope...I really can not contain my anxious anticipation any longer......I NEED "SHOW & TELL"!!!!!(stamping of feet...pouty bottom lip)
...it's OK... I am calm once again...and humbly request a snappy or two when you have washed your paint brush for the LAST time...Oh dear heart, you must be tired...but ever so excited. The champagne is chilling...just say the word.
Well today was a day FULL to the brim with "to do's"...but I am done. The kettle has whistled, my fuzzy slippers are on the right feet and we are curled up discussing just how very fine this spent day has been....Ahhhh....this is perfect.
A HUGE purse order arrived, from a new company we have only used a few times. They are so delightful...and "pretty" just makes me smile.
Oh so much to do, and only a few days left. I must remind myself to take it DAY by DAY.
Well sweet one it is time to watch a movie and maybe have a wee bit of pop corn...hurry over, and I'll make you a bowl...XOXO...Rosie

P.S...and you have sent a little something in the mail for me...I am smilin' ear to ear with excitement...Thank you sweet friend :)

What a great lesson for your students Anita! You sound like a wonderfully inspiring teacher. Where is your school located...downtown? I took French in high school and college. A lot of it, sadly, has faded away though.

You left me a comment last week wondering where I live, since I am also in Minnesota. I am in the northern suburbs, in Andover. I always love to discover other people who are near me. Best wishes ♥

Afternoon my sweet friend...hope your day was filled with JOY. My students did keep me busy today...some of them just say the sweetest things!

I had to laugh at your comment you left me about ironing! I have not picked up one for years...my sweet Jay does it all for me...I just put whatever needs done on the banister and every morning it is ready for me! He needs to wear a dress shirt and suit most days to work so he always does his own {and mine}!

Have a great evening...put up your sweet feet and enjoy a cup of tea...I think I will have vanilla tea tonight...I will think of you as I sip away.

Hugs and love. oxoxox

Dearest Anita,
When I got home this evening I had groceries to put away and
I was anticipating the arrival of my grandchildren within minutes,
so I set the mail aside. That being the case, it was only moments ago that I opened your enchanting envelope to be greeted with **stardust!** I cannot express my delight in words! I had a smile on my face even before I read your sweet note. I feel honored to have one of your tags to admire and enjoy. I will look for just the right frame in which to display it!
The saying is so very true…”Les bonnes choses viennent en petits paquets!”
Thank you, so much, dear friend! You are an amazingly talented artist and writer.
I so appreciate your special and unique gift! Merci, beaucoup!
Blessings,
Susan

Somewhere in my mirror I see you and you see a little bit of me. I shot photo's of some friends with a large bow similar to the shot you posted. I have Audrey in my home to remind me of exquisite grace and I see a group of children learning from a mentor and great inspiration such as yourself. How lucky they are.

What is your heritage Anita? You're flair is unique and I am curious.

I hope I will become one of those candycanes on the windowsill.

Sending you a smile for today.
